Florida West Coast Woodworkers

July General Meeting – Sid Mann- Old Time Maine Logging Video

There were 23 members in attendance at the meeting and three guests (Mike Dummett, James Bassett, Steve Christoffells) for a total of 26 people in attendance.

This evening’s presentation was by Sid Mann. He showed a movie from the 1930s, about logging in Maine, called “From Stump to Ship.” The film was originally a silent film narrated by the president of the Machinist Lumber Company, Alfred Ames. In this reconstruction of the original film a narrator speaks the words Ames used when he showed the silent film. It is the most complete film record of long lumbering operations of that era known to exist today.
