February 2020 Meeting – John Peasely – Intarsia

President Tom Falcone called the meeting order. There were 59 people present including a record of 10 guest. Tom ask all the guest to tell a little bit about themselves, and how they heard about the club. He expressed our appreciation to advantage Lumber for hosting our monthly meetings. He then introduced Dan from Advantage, who summarized some current lumber specials and reminded us that club members receive a 10% discount on all purchases.

Anouncements:

  • Tool Show – Alan Brown recapped the annual tool show and noted that it had provided the club with good publicity, in fact we have gained four new members as a result of our participation. He thanked members who provided work products for the club’s display.
  • Annual Club Picnic – The picnic will be held on Sunday April 5, 2020 at the Farm Bureau building off Fruitville Road beginning at 1:00. The 2×4 contest will again be a central event.  Al Brown reminded members that the rules will be posted to the website.  He announced that there will be a new competition division this year for beginners.
  • February Shop Meet – This month’s meet will be held on February 24 at 7:00. It will be hosted by Greg Casagrande at his shop located at 1912 44th Ave. East in Bradenton.
  • There is no demo scheduled for this month.
  • Future Turning Demo – President Tom announced that he and Marvin Stoltzfus are planning a turning demo to be held at Marvin’s shop. The tentative date is April 13th
  • Manatee Food Bank – The Club will continue to support the Food Bank.  President Tom asked members who would like to donate items to the Food Bank to bring them to a future meeting or to notify him.

President Tom introduced our own John Peasley who narrated a video of his intarsia process. The video had been produced in his shop by Larry Simmons.  The video was informative and generated questions and sparked interest among some members to try the process. For those who missed it, or would like to see it again, it should be posted to the website.

Larry Simmons volunteered to video any member in there shop, who wished to be our monthly speaker, but has a project or procedure using power tools too large or dusty to bring to a meeting.

Treasurers Report

Randy Cooper presented the report for the period ending January 31. He noted membership dues had been received from 47 members including four new members.

Auction – Randy Cooper announced the club would be conducting an auction of tools from an estate on Monday February 17th at Pat Kerr’s shop located at 4425 Independence Court in the Northgate Center Commerce Park in Sarasota.  The time will be 7:00.

The meeting concluded with the customary raffle and door prizes.
